Objection letter to the Labour Secretary and Labour Commissioner
Table of Contents
Today, IIDEA members submitted an objection letter to the Labour Secretary and Labour Commissioner of Karnataka opposing the Karnataka Shops & Establishments (Amendment) Bill 2025. The bill seeks to extend daily working hours to 10, with up to 12 hours including overtime. This is a direct attack on the rights, health, and dignity of workers across the IT, ITeS, BPO, e-commerce, fintech, and digital sectors. In a country already ranked among the most overworked in the world, this amendment will push workers into burnout, exploitative schedules, and reduced job opportunities.
Flexibility for employers must not come at the cost of exploitation.
As a democratic and progressive union working for workers rights in IT/ITeS sectors, we have also requested that IIDEA be included in all future consultations and policy discussions that affect the rights of our sector. We urge everyone to stay aware, stay vocal and stand against unfair policies. Join IIDEA - lets stay united, stand for workers rights and fight against exploitation ✊️
